Parent and School Collaboration
Collaboration between the parent, private school, and DCPS can help our team better understand if the student may have a disability.
Parents have no obligation or responsibility regarding private school participation.

Other Recommendations
-
We encourage private schools and parents to communicate about any student concerns prior to a referral being submitted to ensure everyone is on the same page before the process begins. However, parents may submit a referral without the private school being in agreement.
Collaborating with DCPS Schools
For DC residents, a DCPS local school may be involved in a student's eligibility process.

When a DCPS local school is involved, the DCPS school will host the AED meeting and any subsequent meetings. If assessments are needed, the school will work with the family to schedule a time for the child to come to the DCPS school for assessments. Prompt responsiveness to scheduling is greatly appreciated.
